AOBA MATCHA BOWL
AOBA MATCHA BOWL
YOUNG LEAVES IN THE SUMMER WIND.
Kiyomizu-yaki from Kyoto. A chawan with broad brushstrokes in Oribe green. The green lies in bands on a creamy white background, sometimes dense and vibrant, sometimes delicately bleeding, covered with fine crackle. The rim curves slightly irregularly, the foot ring remains unglazed, the light clay is exposed and bears the workshop stamp. The glaze is applied by hand and runs differently on each piece during firing. Aoba (青葉) means young, fresh leaves.
"The fresh green of the glaze and the green of the matcha are reflected in each other."
